Upcoming Events at Tara Lila
Himanaji Winter Challenge
You have come to know Tara Lila for our three parks within the borderlands of Oneida and Vilas Counties hosting over 20 miles of snowshoe and fatbike trails, as well as our annual Snowshoe Celebration. Coming in February 2025 we would like to introduce the Himanaji Winter Challenge: A 5K Snowshoe race held at our Ripco Road park location.
The word “Himanaji” (hi-ma-NA-ji) comes from the two Sanskrit words for “snowy” [himana] and “race-course” [aji]. We present this snowy race course as a challenge for all who wish to participate. The arbiter of this challenge is not a clock or your fellow racer, but the Northwoods itself. You will be tested by the winter cold, the wind, and the snow. The Himanaji sets before the racer a feast of endurance, for all those who wish to drink from the cup of challenge.
Race Start: 10:00 am
Race Distance: 5.1 Km
Race Location: 7550 Ripco Road, Eagle River, WI, 54521
Race Fee: $20.00 (all race proceeds will be donated to Trees for Tomorrow and the Three Eagle Trail Foundation.)
Registration: (COMING SOON)
Race Director: Chris Nafziger (himanajirace@gmail.com)
Snowshoe Celebration
Join us this February as we return to celebrate the bounty of snowfall here in the Northwoods. We have a beautiful forest around us, and to understand it better, a free guided naturalist tour will depart from the parking lot at 3:00 pm. The trails will be groomed and open for snowshoeing all evening, with a campfire treating adventurers with free hot cocoa and smores. The evening will conclude with our beloved luminary walk along the Kushmanda Trail. All ages and skill levels are welcome!
Trees for Tomorrow Outdoor Adventures at Tara Lila: Guided Night Hike
Eagle River, WI—On Saturday, October 26th, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Trees For Tomorrow (TFT), in partnership with Tara Lila LLC, will host a FREE Outdoor Adventures informative nighttime hike on one of Tara Lila’s beautiful forest trails near the city of Eagle River. The evening will begin with a brief indoor presentation on Trees For Tomorrow's campus, focusing on the importance of preserving true dark spaces and their benefits for both humans and wildlife. Attendees will learn how artificial light can affect natural habitats, disrupt nocturnal wildlife, and even impact human circadian rhythms. After the indoor portion, participants will head to Tara Lila's Sundstein Road Unit for a 40-60 minute guided hike through the forest navigating occasionally uneven terrain.
The guided night hike is designed to be family-friendly and accessible to participants ages 5 and up. The total event will last approximately two hours; the hike itself will take about an hour to complete. Participants are expected to return to the Trees For Tomorrow campus by 7:30 PM. Restrooms and drinking water will be available at the campus, with a pit toilet located at the Sundstein Road trailhead. Proper outdoor footwear and warm clothing are recommended, as fall evenings can be cool.
Thanks to the generous donation of the Aylward family and the ongoing partnership with Tara Lila LLC, this event is free to the public. Trees for Tomorrow encourages families, nature enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the nocturnal forest to attend. Whether you're a first-time hiker or a seasoned nature lover, this night hike promises a memorable experience where you can connect with nature in a truly special way.
The Program is free, but pre-registration is required, and space is limited. Interested individuals can register online at https://www.treesfortomorrow.com/Current-Activities/ or by calling Trees for Tomorrow's main office at 715-479-6456.
